In preparation for flipping my closet to spring/summer (I do that late; many bloggers are already proudly displaying bare legs, but it’s still cool here and I’m not shedding the tights until the temperatures are consistently in the 20s/70s, which doesn’t happen until late May/early June here in Toronto), I took inventory of my closet this past weekend. While I’m sure I don’t have as extensive a closet as some ladies do, it was enough for me to think “Damn, I have way too much, I need to stop shopping and wear/enjoy what I have.”
I also did some purging, and put some things aside for debate. This top is in the undecided pile, so I wore it again to decide.
Anthropologie Slung Sash Tee (Bailey 44 – 2011)
J.Crew No. 2 Pencil Skirt in retro jade // Wolford tights // Michael Kors heels
These days I like simpler necklines I can wear a statement necklace with. So I think I might let this one go, but it might sit in my undecided pile for a few months until I decide that undecided means no.
Oh! I immediately loved that shirt and then was shocked to hear you didn't like it. I can see what you are saying about wanting a simpler silhouette, but I still love it. It is so sexy! Yet, reserved. And the color is so good on you. Just take a bit to decide and look at that picture again. Cause you look HOT!

Haha, thanks Jenni! It's not that I don't like it, I just don't think it's very me anymore. But I will take time to decide. I've done that before and rescued things from the pile. :)
DeleteI'm doing a similar closet clean-out. I'm rewearing pieces in a new way to see if I might fall in love with them again, but so far that's only happened once with a pink, black, and white polka dot dress. Everything else is going to the donate pile. I made the mistake of asking the girls at work for their "honest opinions" on if pieces were keepers or not. Of course, they all wanted to be nice and say, "Oh, it's cute! That one's a keeper! Definitely!" To every item. I figure if I have to ask, maybe it is time to let it go. I have a lot of clothes, but so few that I wear regularly. I have a decent assortment of pieces that I really love and wear over and over again. I want to buy more pieces like that. Because as much as I "should" be buying staples and mix-and-match separates, I just don't wear them. And when I do, I don't feel particularly special, pretty, or confident. That's the new test I'm going to use to evaluate my closet.
ReplyDeleteAs for your shirt? Maybe if you have to ask, it's time to let it go? Like I realized with my coworkers? Especially if you find yourself wanting to wear simpler tops and really jazz them up with statement necklaces.

I totally agree with you, if I have to ask the question (whether to myself or other people), it's a no. The same goes for clothes I buy, if I'm not sure myself and I have to ask someone else's opinion and I'm swayed by that opinion, I'm going to put it in the donate pile sooner rather than later.
