Not so original

This looks very similar to what I wore last week:

Anthro Daily Gathering Dress (Bailey 44) | Antho Tiny Cardigan | Anthro necklace | Wolford Satin Opaque Tights | Michael Kors heels

Obviously I wasn’t feeling very creative this morning. I woke up sneezing from my allergies, and it just went downhill from there. The sunny weather this morning turned cold and rainy, and it was an irritating day at work. And when I get cranky, I crave junk food. (I didn’t indulge though.)

So not the best way to end what has been a pretty good month. Lots of walking, lots of cooking, lots of healthy food, reading, and not much shopping. Just two knit pencil skirts from American Apparel in white and sea blue, on sale and in anticipation of casual summer days. Not too bad.

Lots to look forward to in May too: friends from Ottawa coming to visit next weekend, Victoria Day long weekend in Boston with my sister and her husband in a few weeks (and more shopping, I’m sure), and finally putting away those damn tights.

Tracy Reese – Anthropologie Made in Kind

I didn’t gravitate towards any of the first Anthropologie Made In Kind pieces, but I love Tracy Reese’s new dresses (first seen on FabSugar earlier this week).

Elvia Dress, $258

Lawnscape Dress, $298

Lima Bustier Dress, $298

Revisited Impressionist Dress, $298

Revisited Impressionist Bow Dress, $298

All so gorgeous. More than I’d like to pay for a dress, but looking and wishing is free.

But I think my favourite is this Tracy Reese dress for BHLDN posted on BHLDN’s Facebook page.

Can’t wait to see this one online.

more teal, and fill in the blank Friday

Today was really cold, so I bundled up in my favourite teal scarf that I bought at Club Monaco in 2006 (I think, it was a long time ago). I also put on a lot of teal eyeshadow, but that has nothing to do with the cold.

I don’t have that much to say today except I’m ecstatic it’s Friday (is it just me or did this week feel like it would never end?), so I’m linking up with the little things we do for fill in the blank Friday.

  1. When I wake up in the morning the first thing I do is put on my glasses. I'm blind without them.
  2. I can hardly wait for a really good night's sleep tonight.
  3. The quickest way to my heart is Vietnamese fried spring rolls because they're like crack and I love them.
  4. A little known fact about me is that I once considered a career in musical theatre. I love Broadway and I love to sing, so it seemed like a possibility. Then I realized I wasn't cut out to be an actor.
  5. The best part of my job is the people I meet and the people I work with.
  6. Something I just couldn't like without is lip balm. My go-to has been Burt's Bees original for the past few years, but I'm open to trying others.
  7. Something useful I wish I knew how to do is car repair. Well, maybe I wouldn't want to do car repair myself, but I'd like to know more about it so I wouldn't feel like an idiot on the rare occasion I take Will’s car to the mechanic.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Colour overdose?

Club Monaco Dress | Anthropologie cardigan (Tiny) | Hilary Druxman necklace | Wolford Satin Opaque Tights in Admiral | Tory Burch Reva Flats

It’s no secret how much I like teal. It’s my favourite colour and I gravitate towards it in all forms – clothes, makeup, home decor, etc. Teal dominates my closet. I even have teal underwear. Occasionally I’m drawn to shades of pink and purple, but I keep coming back to my favourite hue. But is there such a thing as too much teal?

Too much?

I want, I want, I want

I've suddenly been inflicted with the desire for a bright red shoe. I think it was because I somehow found these online:

Tory Burch Eddie in Scarlet Red Patent

Seriously, I don't know how I got to this page. I wasn't looking for a red shoe, the thought of a bright red shoe hadn't crossed my mind, and then I see this and suddenly I want, I want, I WANT with a capital W.

I'm loving the combination of teal/aqua/turquoise and red these days, like this, so maybe that's why. I have a ton of teal/aqua/turquoise in my closet and no red (and hardly any coloured shoes—the tragedy!), so a red shoe would fit in really nicely. It would also work well with this Anthro top:

Braxton Top

I tried on the brown version and hated it, but the blue polka-dot version surprisingly worked, despite the flowy shape. I tend to prefer shapes that are more fitted, but every once in a while I like to challenge myself and step outside my comfort zone.

I want a lot of things, but I struggle a lot with wanting things. I see something, I want it, and usually I want it NOW. Patience is not one of my virtues, and I think I've said it before but I would definitely fail the Marshmallow Test. Delayed gratification? What the heck is that? I usually get what I want, but not in the ugly sense (no lying, cheating, stealing, or backstabbing), it’s just that I usually buy myself whatever I want.  The struggled comes with the fact I don’t need most of the things I buy, and I always think, I have so much, it's not right that I want so much more. I have these goals of living simply and not being consumed by so many material things.and obviously that hasn't worked out so far.

I’m a work in progress. And I’m human, so I have to remember not to beat myself up so much.

I hope everyone is enjoying the weekend. It’s cold and dreary here and my allergies are still terrible (I really, really, really want the inside of my head to stop itching), but I’ve been enjoying my time inside reading and catching up on TV on my PVR. I had about 5 episodes of Ringer to watch, and even though it was a bit hit and miss, I’m sad that it probably won’t return in the fall. Sarah Michelle Gellar was pretty awesome, and I really want her hair and her makeup.

The wants, they never end…

Yesterday bare legs, today scarf and gloves.

I love tights. Maybe not as much as Zooey Deschanel, I don’t need to do cartwheels whenever I want, but I love them. I can’t live without my Wolfords. But there does come a point in the year when I get tired of them, and I’m getting close to it now.

Anthro Tartlet Burst Top (Deletta) | J.Crew Jenna’s Cardigan | Anthro Liquid Acres Skirt (Maeve) | Wolford Satin Opaque Tights in Admiral | Tory Burch Reva flats

As much as I like spring and early summer (before it gets too hot), I also hate spring and early summer because of my seasonal allergies. I’ve been sneezing all over the place and I have an itchy spot at the top of my palate that I can’t scratch; I’d need to stick a fork along the roof of my mouth to get at it. Will has an itchy spot in between his ears he can’t reach, so he’d like to stick a chopstick into his ear. We’re a great pair.

In the meantime, grin and bear it, I suppose?

practically pastel

Anthro Skyfall Dress (Burlapp) (2009) | J.Crew featherweight cashmere cardigan in heathered algae | Hilary Druxman necklace | Wolford Satin Opaque Tights in Admiral | Puma Rudolf Dassler ballet flats in oil blue/deep jungle

I don’t normally wear pastels, with my darker colouring I find that they wash me out so I tend to go for darks or brighter jewel tones. I might have a slight fear of looking like an Easter egg, or maybe I’m just rebelling against the Easter dresses my mom had me wear when I was a kid. But the most recent everybody everywear prompt and the return of sunny weather today (even if it’s still a bit chilly) made me think lighter. I’m not even entirely sure that these colours are truly pastel, the dress is leaning more towards the jewel tones in my eye. It’s a valiant attempt though!

Winter outfit in April

Brr, it’s cold out there! I saw some ice pellets on my walk home from work. So it’s back to black and tights and something decidedly not spring.

Anthropologie Craft & Creation Top (Deletta) | Club Monaco cardigan | Hilary Druxman necklace | Anthro Goban Skirt (Maeve) | Wolford Satin Opaque Tights | Michael Kors heels

I’ve been feeling a little under the weather for the past week, hence my little break from blogging. I might have a bit of a stomach bug and incredibly bad spring allergies. If I’m sneezing and blowing my nose like it’s spring, can it at least feel like spring outside?

Also, I’m feeling a bit in a rut with my closet, but I don’t want to go out and buy anything new either. I’m not sure what to do about this, but I’m sure that once it gets warm and I’m back in bare legs and bright colours, I’ll feel better.
